An insane business

Isn’t that crazy? Yeah, so I don’t know if I can get you guys in here, but I’m working on raising these guinea pigs. Isn’t that insane? It’s totally insane, you know. I’m building a whole business on them, building more and more homes for them and facilities for them, and I’m starting to plant all kinds of plants to be able to feed them where I won’t have to buy feed from the feed stores, which I predict will be too expensive or closed. So yeah, I was talking to a girlfriend, she’s been helping me, but budgeted.

I’m like, oh my gosh, you got to stop. I’m going to have to do this on my own for a little while because, you know, the money is not quite there. That’s okay. I’ve got a good amount of work going on, and she’s looking at me like she doesn’t understand the full picture, and I’m like, look, this is a business that does not make one iota of sense right now. It really doesn’t. So yeah, the fundamental premise behind it is, you know, food prices are going up. Let me ask you those three questions, right? Have you noticed that food prices are increasing? Have you noticed that, do you think the food prices will continue to increase? And then the third one is just a little bit more subtler, but not too much.

Have you noticed that the food prices are increasing more rapidly? Basically, they’re accelerating. So I’m planning, predicting, hoping that by the time I get this system fully up and running and functional and have developed, you know, a good breed, got good genetics going that that’ll be the point in time when people really start to realize that they need food. And these guys happen to be like some of the most excellent. I mean, I’m listening that I’m like, I’m kind of an expert in backyard food production. And these guys are just like the best backyard food production animals ever.

Now, rabbits are great. I would say rabbits are great, but rabbits are second to these guys. These guys only need grass, basically. They do like other leaves and other things. And that’s helpful. But really, you can raise them just on grass. You know, they’re super easy to breed and keep track of. And it’s just just they’re just they’re way more easier in terms of like less disease or problems or things like that. So, you know, we don’t eat them here in America, right? Guinea pigs. They’re called guinea pigs when they’re little.

These guys are bigger. They’re called cavies. And then when they’re real big, they call them kooey. They’re eaten in South America as a standard. Like that is what people eat. People live on that. People normally have a cavalry with, you know, anywhere from 10 to 100 cavies. And they may have a little business where they, you know, cook them up and they have a little thing out in the front and they’ll cook them up for you. Right. So anyway, yeah, if you think you’re crazy, you’re actually watching a video from a woman who’s downright insane.

I’ll give you one other tidbit that, you know, and so people say, what’s the meat like? It’s about like squirrel. If you’ve ever eaten squirrel, they have fast twitch. They’ve got real fast twitch, fast twitch, fast reaction muscles, which means it’s more of a darker meat. I was reading recently ersatz in the South, which talks about what the people in the South did during the Civil War, the North and South War that was going on. And I always found it very interesting because, you know, most of the time in the war, and I, you know, I grew up in the South and was involved in sports.

So my coach was a Civil War buff. So, you know, we’d drive from Florida to Georgia to Virginia or Kentucky or whatever to compete in these big matches. And we’d always stop at all these battlefields and stuff. And we’d see these cannons and these guys, the statues on horses and all that. But I was always like, what did the women and children do? And if you happen to live in the Southeast United States, I highly, highly recommend you pick up a copy or a climate that’s like that, a temperate Northern climate.

It’s called ersatz in the South. And it’s a book written by a woman historian all about what did the women do? Because the men all went off to war and did their war thing, right? And then so the women took over and, you know, running the farms, running the plantations, taking care of food, trying to grow food, trying to find substitutes for coffee, you know, trying to figure out how to do medicine, you know, all these different things like, and what worked like in terms of as, as everything got more and more desperate, you know, what little small businesses worked and what, what kind of things happening.

It was really wonderful book about making do with nothing. And one comment in there was that, you know, somewhere near toward the middle to the end of the Civil War, the only meat hanging in the butcher shops were rats, rodents. So things can get that bad, right? They really can. And, and unfortunately, I think they will. So it’s so insane. You know, it’s so insane. I just had a lovely dinner at a beautiful upscale restaurant the other night with a friend. And, you know, we just pop over to Home Depot to pick up whatever building supplies we need or whatever.

And like this world is the way it is right now, which is really wonderful and really delightful. And here I am building a business based on utter human famine. Okay, so if you thought you were crazy for prepping, I think I’ve upped you. Do please prep. I’ve, even if I’m totally wrong, I don’t mind. I’ve blown more time and energy and money on things that were even stupider. So I really enjoy the work and I love what I’m doing. And I believe that this will be an incredibly valuable contribution. And if it isn’t, whatever, you know, anyway, I do want to say I’ve got a really great phrase.

I saw this from a Jason from I think is on a sub-stack channel called politics and preparedness. And he’s like, preparedness brings peace. It really does. You can’t control what’s going on out there. You can’t control the, they’ve just shut off. You know, the Red Sea and the straight-over moods has been closed. It’s almost like you were going on five months now, you know, and the food or lyser and the diesel and all that, all the things are shutting down the food supply and all that’s going on. And who knows, you can’t control any of that, but there are some things that you can control.

And that’s where peace comes from. And, you know, stocking up on food, figuring out what business you’re going to do, you know, how are you going to serve, getting to know your neighbors, all the stuff. Anyway, preparedness brings peace. Talk to you later. [tr:trw].
