Hello. My name is Paul, and I am the voiceover for a ministry provided to you by Jim Pugh at God Is Government called Your Daily Bread. Taken from Christ’s teaching of the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 verse 11, this is a daily devotion ministry focused not only on uplifting Scripture, but Scripture that will grow your spiritual connection with Christ. We hope that you receive these devotions to uplift you, encourage you, but most importantly, advance your knowledge today’s focus discussion will be on the difference between marriage and the home. It is important to understand the difference between marriage and the home.

Marriage is a legal covenant between God and man and woman. Marriage establishes the purpose and rules of the man and the woman coming together in forming one mind in order to build a family and the home. The marriage has to function properly in accordance with God’s covenant and his rules for both the man and woman to cement him as the centre of the marriage in order to create a kingdom family and a kingdom home. It is the home that sets the foundation for all of society, the church, the workplace, the government, and all other society organisations that provide civic activities.

We will look at this subject from two different perspectives, the husband responsibilities of the home and the wife responsibilities of the home. Once these are individually discussed, we will bring the subject to a conclusion by placing both husband and wife in the home and reflecting the home and its outward foundation to the rest of society. The role of the husband in the home. In order to build a God-fearing home, we need to set the foundation. When I was young and dating, I had no clue about what my role was in a woman to be my wife.

I focused on turning a woman on to get her to say I do, instead of following the biblical approach of having her say I do so that I could love her the rest of my life. Many of our homes are upside down because of the husband’s approach, like I did at my young age, taken to build a home. Men should not only love his wife because she deserves to be loved. Men should love their wife in order to turn her into someone he wants to love. There are five responsibilities men have to their wives.

If we are not doing these five things, then as husbands, we have blown it. What we are going to discuss here in will not be told to you at your work, on television, or from members of your family or friends. I would submit to you that you should not expect this information from any of them because they did not create marriage. It is God that created marriage and, as such, we will only look to his guidance in this discussion. The first responsibility of a man, husband, to his woman wife is to love her.

Some of us might say this goes without saying. Often what we men put under the label of love has little to do with love. Men have contributed a great deal to devaluing the word love today. Love has lost not only its meaning but its effect. We have so devalued the meaning of love that it is used to indicate what something can do for us, make us feel good. We say I love my home, I love this work, I love chocolate cake, or anything else. The home makes us comfortable. The cake satisfies a need for something tasting sweet.

The work satisfies what my career needs. We have made the love almost non-Christian and flippant. We use the word so much that when we need to say it for all the right reasons, it doesn’t carry the same weight as it once used to. When the scriptures talk about love, it uses the word to define the sacrifices one does for the benefit of another. We can only measure the amount of love by the amount of sacrifice, not what something does to satisfy us. When we say that we love our wives, but the meaning behind that is that we love what she does for us, then you don’t love your wife.

What she is doing for you is how much she loves you, not you loving her. Men, to say we love our wife, is to say how much we sacrifice for her. If you prepare on a piece of paper two columns, in the first column you list what you do for your wife, with her or for her, around the house etc. In the second column, list the things your wife does for you, yes cooking, washing clothes and everything else. If her list is greater than yours, then she loves you more. You are not sacrificing enough for her.

Ephesians 5 verse 25 KJV. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it. Men, to talk about love is to talk about the cross, to talk about love is to talk about calvary, and to talk about love is to talk about saviour, Christ himself. Men, we are to love our wives as Christ loves the church. Men, just as we have a saviour in Christ, our wives need to have a saviour in us. Men, we have a deliverance in Christ, our wives need a deliverance in us.

Think about that. Men, when we speak about loving our wife, we must understand we are talking about carrying a cross. The command given by God to man in scripture about loving his wife is never given to the wife for her husband. A woman is never commanded to love her husband in scripture. She is commanded to reverence him, respect him. It is important that a woman love her husband, but it is not a commandment. Her love is a response to her husband’s love for her. If we men are to become biblical lovers unto our wives, then we must become biblical saviours.

We need to remember, Jesus didn’t die on the cross for us because we were lovable. Jesus died for us in order to make us lovable. Men, we should not love our wives because she deserves to be loved. This of course is obvious, but men should love their wives to help her become the person we can love our whole life. It is not about your wife being right and the reason to love her. But we should love her to aid in turning the wrong into right in order to love her more. And guys, heaven forbid, it is not in meeting your needs that is the reason we long for our wives.

Our attitude ought to be that we are going to love our wives while she learns to meet our needs. In addition, we ought to not love her because she is meeting your needs. We ought to love our wives in order that she turns into something that is everything that you need. Here is one for the record. Most men date in order to select a woman to be his bride. But scriptures tell us we ought to marry in order to date. Most men work hard to turn on a woman to get her to say I do and marry you.

But scriptures tell us we ought to marry and love her to turn her on. Men like to think of themselves as a great lover. A great lover is only measured by the size of the cross one carries, not the size of a part of his anatomy or the number of women he gets to have sexual relations with. Men, we are to love our wives as Christ loved the church. Christ loved the church to death. If we are still alive, then our jobs are not done. When God created Adam, and in order to have a mate, Adam had to allow God to open his side and give a rib in order to get Eve.

Christ not only had to bleed but die in order to birth the church. In order for your wives to move from where she is in your marriage and her mindset and become what she ought to be, men, we need to go to Calvary. We are willing to pay whatever price is inconvenient in order for her to feel that you love her. We need to come to the understanding that, as men, we are willing to commit to whatever pain we have to go through in order to achieve the love your wife is entitled to.

Men, as our wives’ husbands, we are willing to go through anything to turn our wives from where they are to where they need to be. In Genesis chapter 29, we are told Jacob had to work 14 years in order to get permission from Laban for Rachel to be his wife. It was a high price to pay for Jacob, but it was the price tag. I experienced in my own life when my father and mother put me in a box to take the other side and both wanted to run away from the other, because in their words, neither was lovable.

I think this is often the case with many men today. Men need to come to their wives for the sake of their home and talk to their wives, telling them that while things might not be right, I may not like how you talk to me or how you seem to come across of not respecting me. I am here for you, my wife, as Christ was for the church. Whatever might be wrong, I am here to fix it, because I now understand I am responsible for everything good and bad in our home. Whatever the personal price to be paid, I am ready to pay it.

I am going to work to be the saviour for our home. Thank you for joining us in this exploration of the differences between marriage and the home. Until next time, remember to keep the faith, stay strong, and continue to shine your light in the world. To hear these daily devotions of your daily bread, please log on to goddessgovernment.com.
