SHOULD ANCHORAGE BE EVACUATED IMMEDIATELY?

Now, geologists are saying it’s imminent. Mount Spurr, an 11,000 foot tall volcano, 81 miles from Anchorage. It’s ready to go. Now, I’m looking here at pictures of it. It’s scary. Steam is coming out of the opening. Seismic activity remains elevated. Earthquake swarms have been detected beneath Mount Spurr over the past 24 hours. Seismic activity is due to magma rising to the surface causing stress in the surrounding rock. If Mount Spurr blows, I’m going to quote Matt Haney scientist in charge at the AVO. He said, if it blows, it’ll be explosive. It would spew multiple plumes of ash rising as high as 50,000 feet.

No air travel there into the air and may blanket a lack of Anchorage home to 300,000 people. It’ll be blanketed in a layer of dust. I’m going to get to that. There’s a real problem with that. We’ll get to in just a second. The likelihood of eruption has increased due to increase in earthquake activity. They went on to say, the scientists are divided whether or not the volcano is going to blow in a matter of days. Can we just say this? If they thought this was really going to go, they need to do some of that.

They need to do some evacuations and particularly those people that are compromised with the respiratory system. Do you hear what I’m telling you? This is a very, very big deal. So, what I’m saying is this. If you look at Pompeii and you found people kind of frozen, they didn’t die from the lava. That’s kind of the Hollywood creation of volcanoes and how they get you. That’s not how they get you. It’s the particulates in the air overwhelm your lungs because you’re not getting the oxygen need. And people that are compromised with things like asthma, anyone that would have RSV, for example, or pneumonia, they need to immediately leave Anchorage because of the danger.

But I’m wondering if this is bad enough to threaten the able-bodied. This is a big deal. If I were the governor of Alaska right now, I would seriously consider evacuating the city. Say, well, that would kill the economy. Well, would you rather kill 300,000 people for your edification? We need to keep an eye on it. We’ll see you back here again next time.
