Summary

➡ Marjorie is hosting a free webinar about computer privacy due to concerns about programs like Microsoft’s Copilot, which uses AI to analyze user activity. She’s also worried about similar practices from Apple. To counter this, she’s exploring Linux, an open-source operating system that’s becoming easier to use and install, with some computers even being sold with Linux pre-installed. These Linux systems can be customized to look like familiar interfaces such as Windows 10 or Apple.

Hey, this is Marjorie. I’m shooting a quick video for you about a webinar, a free webinar that’s coming up this Thursday on privacy for your computer. So I tell you what drove me over the line was when I found out that Microsoft has a program called Copilot that every few seconds it takes a screenshot of what you’re doing and then it uses an AI to analyze that. So now it’s totally just going to be kept for private for you on your computer if they would never do anything with the data, right? Right.

I said that’s it. I’ve had enough of this. I’m not doing it. Apple is no better, right? They haven’t announced it yet, but I’m sure they have something very similar. They’ve probably been doing it forever anyway and now they’re just letting us know it’s a feature. So anyway, I have been wanting to learn Linux for a long time. I know it’s like the third operating system. I do not believe it’s controlled yet. It’s open source. I just never wanted to get into it because it’s kind of, you know, it’s always been kind of techy and I just don’t want to, I don’t have time for that.

Well, Linux has evolved, right? And so there are people that have come up and developed very simple ways to have Linux be installed on your computer. They’re also just selling computers with Linux operating systems that are very easy to use. You guys, I’m sorry. Just get one minute here. They’re very easy to use. They’re very easy to install and operate and you can actually make them look a lot like what you’re already familiar with. You can have it look like a front end of a Windows 10 or an Apple operating system. In fact, I’m using one here on, this is an old laptop of mine that I thought would be dead because if you try to load Microsoft on here, it just doesn’t have enough memory and capacity.

But Linux is so much smaller and lightweight and it’s not bloated with all this tracking and whatever software that you can totally revive an old laptop with this. So it’s pretty amazing. Anyway, there’s my friend Glenn Meter. I love Glenn’s stuff. I’ve been using his stuff for years to help me stay safe, really up my game with privacy online. He’s really, really great with non-techy boomer types, right? And he’s got a free webinar all about these new versions of Linux that have come out that are a lot easier to use for those of us that are non-techies as well as you can source computers and laptops that already have the Linux-operated system on it and how to use it.

So we really do have to get off of these systems, right? The amount of control and the amount of things that they can notice. None of your passwords are going to be safe. They’re just taking a look at all of that. So anyway, it’s a free webinar. It’s this Thursday, so that’ll be February 20th at 7 p.m. central. And as soon as I get off of this quick live thing, I’m going to pop the link in there for you to be able to attend that. I really, really recommend it. In fact, I’m going to be there again because I always learn more stuff.

Okay, this Thursday, 7 free webinar on Linux for non-techies. I’ll talk to you later. All right. Now, how do I turn this off? I thought it was a video. [tr:trw].
