Let’s just get one and do a quick run, and you know how these things are. We’ve been shooting them a couple of times. Hey everyone, this is Marjorie Wildcraft, and with my really, really dear friend, Stephanie Sison, and I’m here at the Caribbean Agroforestry Institute. And you know when I did that piece a little while ago, talking about, you know, where you’re going to go when the volcano blows, right? And I talked about why I chose Puerto Rico, despite the thousand foot wall of water. And I know that it may have been you that reached out, but a lot of people said, hey, I really am interested in Puerto Rico, and I have got the perfect way to come to Puerto Rico.

And so Stephanie has a four-day workshop coming up that will teach you how to live off-grid. Let me give them some deets. Sure. It’s a four-day off-grid living workshop, family-friendly, so you can bring your kids and camp out here at a thousand feet in the jungle in Puerto Rico. We live on 36 acres here off-grid with solar in our own spring and rain catchment. Part of the course will be on agroforestry and permaculture and how to grow your own food from the soil all the way up. And then we’ll have a day on building a small solar system, an off-grid water system, as well as a day on some specialty crops like making your own herbal medicine, utilizing different bamboo species, and a few other surprises we have in store.

And it’s all four days of farm-fresh organic food made here. And yeah, we have a few more spots left, so we’d love to see some of your community out to join us here in Puerto Rico. And so a couple of clarifying things. There are some close Airbnbs if somebody is not up for glamping. Yes, there are Airbnbs that are within 15 minutes or so if you’re less of a camper. And how far is the beach? The beach is 20 minutes away. So you can drive to the beach as well, or book a week-long trip and stay a few days here in the jungle, and then stay a few days on the coast if you want.

Yeah, I’m in rain coming on the west coast, so you’ll want to come by there and we’ll have coffee or lunch together. So that’d be wonderful. And just to clarify, Stephanie is growing an unbelievable amount of food, and she’s got her little daughter, who’s sometimes running and out of camera here, by herself. So she has really dialed in systems for food production that just, like, the minimal amount of effort possible. It’s astonishing how much one woman is growing. Like, you’re actively farming, like, four acres here or five acres. Yeah, we’ve got a lot of agroforestry systems in, and my partner takes care of the solar and water and building stuff, and then myself and Little Acacia do all the plantings.

We don’t have employees or interns or things like that very often, and so it’s really, I really focus on low maintenance, high volume, high nutrition plants for people who have lots of other things to do. And we’re only, I work on this farm, you know, our homestead a few days a week, and then I also help clients with theirs, so I’m not even full-time here and with my three-year-old. But we really try to have maximum production and highest nutrition with the least amount of effort possible. And what are those dates again? January 22nd through 25th, coming up soon, so about a month away.

Yeah, come on out. You know you’re sick of this now. All right, this is Margaret. Definitely come by Ringbone if you come out to Stephanie’s. Like, these people are the real deal. They’re legit. They’re really living this stuff, and they’ve been doing it for years, if not decades, so they really know the ins and outs. And would this be appropriate even if they weren’t planning on living in the tropics? Oh, yeah, absolutely. So permaculture and agroforestry and solar and water, all these technologies and strategies are applicable to cold climates as well. And, you know, Marjorie and I met in Colorado, so I have a dozen years or more, working at high elevation in Colorado in a dry climate.

And so the skills that you’ll learn here can really be applicable to either the tropics or a dry cold climate. All right, this is Marjorie. We’ll see you on the next video. Bye. That’s your boy, maybe, or our neighbor. [tr:trw].
