We talked about the fishers, the changing sediment, the tectonic activity. It’s subtle but is pervasive. We talked about the dangers of farm sinkholes, interference in agriculture, interference in dams, interference in bridges, transportation, changing of the river routes, endangering the boundaries of the river, endangering shipping, yes, everything. Well, let’s put it into a nutshell here. The Colorado River which supplies drinking water to 40 million people in the southwest.

It supplies the lifeblood for irrigated water to an arid region that is plentiful in crops. And also to transportation for commerce and so forth. And so on. Not quite the scale of the Mississippi River but it is number two in the nation. It’s in trouble. And in particular trouble are the dams. More so than the Mississippi River because they’re more in use in Arizona. And these dams are already in trouble as well as the watersheds because of prolonged drought. So now they’re getting a double whammy. But here’s what they’re concerned about. The major cracks indicate seismic damage.

So this problem may go beyond the stability of the water supply, the ability to depend on the river as a lifeblood for the southwest. It could be an ominous sign of tectonic activity that could become cataclysmic. Now that’s a reach but this is what the federal officials are looking at and trying to measure because it’s the sediment that’s being stripped off and the fishers go deep. This is what’s really really scary. Now I talked yesterday with regard to the Mississippi River and I generalized it. I said we have increasing earth changes. We have the Ring of Fire.

We have what’s going on in Cascadia, Yellowstone, Alaska. We have activity in Washington State. We have the New Madrid Fault Line associated with the Mississippi River and that’s a big concern for seismologists. Now we have this. Something is clearly afoot. Yesterday we also reran a story where we talked about Africa is splitting apart. Now we don’t know the rate at which this is going to continue because as we know the outer mantle is like peeling off an orange. It can go very quickly. Remember woolly mammoths undigested vegetation in their stomach found in Siberia. So something happened very quickly over a vast distance with those woolly mammoths.

Well we might be witnessing something similar or we could be looking at changes that are going to happen slowly over a millennia or longer. I don’t know the answer to that. The federal officials don’t know the answer to that but they’re investigating. But clearly right now we have a second major water supply and lifeblood for an entire region of the country that seems to be in some level of jeopardy. The level of jeopardy is yet to be.
