Summary

not available➡ Sheriff Mike Carpinelli from New York, along with a few other sheriffs, is defying state laws that prevent them from cooperating with immigration enforcement. Despite the fear of repercussions from the state’s Attorney General and Governor, these sheriffs are committed to working with ICE agents. The state has tried to hinder their cooperation by prohibiting them from sharing data with ICE agents during traffic stops.

All right. Well, all I got to say to that, Jack, is wow. Yeah. Okay, Jack, let’s go back maybe four, five, six weeks when I think some former sheriff from Arizona said, we’ve got to have the sheriffs in this country working with Tom Homan and the president on deportation and that without the sheriffs, there is no way this works. Yep, I remember that guy, a good-looking guy. I hear he’s really lucky because he married a beautiful girl. Listen, do we already have Sheriff Carpinelli on? Yep, he’s in the audience. He’s right there. Sir.

I don’t know. But can he hear me? Because he usually has a hard time hearing. I can hear you now, so loud and clear. Okay, great. Well, Sheriff Mike Carpinelli from Lewis County, New York. You heard these other two sheriffs. If they could do it in Florida, we could pull this off in New York? Well, you know, I’ll tell you what, I’m extremely proud of those two sheriffs. And obviously, you know, I’m very proud of the entire, you know, Florida Sheriff’s Association down there, what they’re doing. That just goes to show you that in numbers, their strength.

Well, now let me answer that for you. You would be one sheriff in New York who would be very happy to have that happen in New York, correct? 100% Sheriff Max. So how many sheriffs do you think right now in New York are defying the statutes that are supposed to prevent you from helping? How many sheriffs are like you that are still going to do it anyway? Well, let me see if it’s a large number. No, I’m kidding. It’s only probably about maybe six or seven of us. That’s it. Okay. And how many sheriffs do you have there? 56.

56. Okay. Wow. Okay. So what is going on and what supposed laws have been passed in New York to try to keep the deportation from happening in the state of New York? What has happened there? Yeah. Well, right now our association is strongly, you know, fighting this for us and looking at the same, you know, WSO that put people within each agency to have them, you know, certified with that, to work alongside, to be able to do these warrants with ICE. But there, unfortunately, there are a lot of sheriffs who are in fear of our, you know, our Attorney General and our Governor here.

And that’s too bad. So, but to get them to realize- In my opinion, no, sir. In my opinion, no, sir. Well, okay. So, so really then what has the state done to try to impede your cooperation? Well, a couple of years ago, they put in place that we can’t cooperate with giving our data, you know, to any ICE agents when they stop a vehicle that we’re not allowed to share that information with them. Now, how stupid is that? How, you know, just reckless disregard for that officer’s life on a traffic stop when you’re, when you want to find out whether that person is an illegal alien or a, or a wanted person for any major crime, that they can’t find this out, you know, allegedly depends on who their, which sheriff’s officer, they’re attempting to go.

Well, for a little housekeeping, how long ago did you and I first meet in New York City? We were at some meeting together and then you and I had lunch together, I think on the sidewalk of some great restaurant in some Italian restaurant in little Italy, I think. So how long ago was that? Honestly, only back to 2013. 2013. So just 12 years. And we had just barely started the CSPOA a couple of years before that. And you’ve been very involved with us ever since. Yes, sir. Gladly. In fact, in fact, you’re on my website saying that you’ll stand with Sheriff Mac, any dime, any place.

So thank you for the last minute notice on coming on with us today. We had two great sheriffs from Florida on that you saw. And now, and now we have probably the best sheriff in New York with us today. How big is Lewis County? Well, it’s 1,300 square miles. We’re not heavily populated. But we do have a United States military army base that borders are in our county. We share together, President Jefferson, we have about 28,000 people in our community. And but we are a transit, you know, go between many places so we can we can jump in in population pretty quick in the summer and the winter time due to our our recreation things that we have here.

Okay. And so what do you plan to do? Are you six or seven sheriffs in New York? What do you plan to do? And are you in constant regular contact with Tom Homan, letting him know you’re going to help? And how does he feel about what’s going on in New York? Well, thank God for Mr. Homan. And I’m very glad, obviously, you know, for the outcome of with our president, you are in touch with him, right? Can be if need be. Yes, sir. Yeah. Okay, yeah. So I passed on. I passed on several sheriff’s names to him.

And you were definitely on the list. So, so what do you what specifically do you plan to do in order to keep the ball rolling as far as the deportations go? Well, we’re right now, at least our our attorneys in the station are very quickly and, you know, looking at what options that we have, you know, and how to back us up. If the if the governor should be, they’ll come after us or attempt to, you know, stall one of us from cooperating with them. But I can tell you right now, I’ve already met with the board of patrol in my office a couple weeks ago, I told him right up front, listen, we’re gonna help you guys out whatever you need.

Anytime, anyplace. I’ll take my chances. I know my oath that I took in my office. I know the oath where where it belongs. And I don’t swear my allegiance to the governor of New York State. [tr:trw].
