Summary

➡ Dave Hodges, host of The Common Sense Show, discusses the importance of adequate sleep for students and the negative effects of sleep deprivation, such as poor academic performance and increased substance abuse. He suggests that schools should start later to allow students more sleep, despite potential challenges for working parents and after-school activities. He also warns against the trend of four-day school weeks, which can lead to sleep deprivation due to longer school days. Lastly, he promotes investing with Noble Gold to protect savings and retirement funds, cautioning that banks can take your retirement savings due to laws like Dodd-Frank 2010.

Hello America! Dave Hodges here, host of The Common Sense Show. We have a show freeing America, one enslaved mind at a time. You know your kids aren’t getting enough sleep and there’s a direct contributor to them not getting enough sleep that could be changed quite easily. We’re going to talk about what it is that’s happening to them, what the major cause is, and more importantly, what we can do about it. Important stuff for our kids because the lack of sleep can have very serious health implications that we’re going to cover for you right here on The Common Sense Show.

We’ve really been beating the drum about why you should never have your retirement in the bank. Well, they can basically take it from you. Dodd-Frank 2010. But there are other reasons why you really need to take a look at doing business with Noble Gold. Protect your savings. Same thing as your retirement. Although your retirement is more serious because that means you got to start over if you lose it. Not many of us can do that. It’s a hedge against inflation. Great tax advantages. When you open up a retirement that’s controlled by you and not the bank, you get to contribute to it and you don’t pay any tax until you’re 73 or you cash out.

It’s a great deal and Noble Gold will set that up for you and back it up for you. And that asset will appreciate in value because of that as opposed to the dollar. Okay. Gold, silver, great investments right now. Noble Gold can help you with that too. A lot of reasons to get involved. And by the way, first time customers, one tenth of a gold ounce coin right here. This is pretty cool. You’ll get that as a gift for saying thank you for doing business with us. Get started today. Now, I got to give you a disclaimer before I give you the kind of investment.

I have a lot of contact information. The federal government wants me to tell you that there is an inherent risk in any kind of an investment. We agree things can change but I’ll say this. I’ve been a customer of Noble Gold. Not just an advertiser but a customer many times over for seven and a half years. It’s a good testament. Call 877-646-5347. 877-646-5347. Tell Dave Hodges told you to call. I’m going to quote to you directly from RFK Jr. here. If you’re seeing us on video, you’re seeing his image in the background. There’s a new push to change American school hours and it’s gaining momentum.

A sleep specialist supporting RFK Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again movement is advocating for later start times. It’s about time that someone just said this. Jeffrey Rose, a New York based clinical hypnotist, told Fox News Digital that chronic sleep deprivation is severely impacting student performance. It’s doing more than that. The CDC recommends teenagers get eight to ten hours of sleep per day but over three-quarters of high school students report insufficient sleep. Rose, who leads the Rock County Start School’s later chapter, warns that sleep deprivation can lead students to use substances like alcohol and tobacco. California and Florida have already passed legislation with start times no earlier than 830 a.m.

It’s a great idea. University of Minnesota study of 18,000 students show grade point improvement when you start schools later. A 2022 Colorado study revealed students felt less stressed three years after high school started 70 minutes later. The National Education Association notes that later start times can create challenges for working parents and after school activities. Of course, they don’t care about the kids in my humble opinion and that particular study shows that the kids are suffering from sleep. First of all, let me give you a practical suggestion. Okay? Plug in their cell phones in an outside room.

One where they maybe can hear the alarm. They have a bathroom adjacent to their bedroom. It’s a good place to do it and plug that in. Turn it up loud so they’ll wake up but no games. Okay? All electronic and all media, EV off at bedtime and you gotta be determined in this as a parent. You want the kids to achieve in school? That’s one thing. Grade point averages suffer. Drug abuse increases because kids need stimulants when they are not sleeping properly. So it is a direct outgrowth. So we got low grades, substance abuse challenges. Okay? But sleep deprivation shows up in other ways.

It depletes your immune system. So stuff that might not ordinarily affect kids gets them, attacks them because their immune system is weakened because of the lack of sleep. Also too, the same thing can be true with threshold. The term threshold here. Let’s say kids may have a tendency towards a personality disorder or maybe a mood disorder. Okay? But they’re functioning okay. But with lack of sleep, they’re always in a fight or flight mode. High stress, cortisol to stay awake. They got a really fight to stay awake. This weakens resistance to emotional and mental health disorders as well.

I mean lack of sleep is serious. Let’s just flip the coin. Let’s go from teenagers to people over the age of 50. This is a huge predictor when you have insomnia, lack of sleep, a huge predictor of early death. Now, teenagers aren’t going to die generally from lack of sleep. Although you can die from it. There are sleep disorders like fatal, familiar insomnia. We’ll get into that now. But that’s not what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about degradation of student and teenage functioning on multiple levels because of a lack of sleep. The major cause? Schools starting too early.

Kids have demands. Let’s say that a kid plays a sport. Okay? So school’s out. Let’s say at 3.30. They’re on the field or the court or whatever it is at 3.45. Two-hour practice, 5.45. Home. Okay? Now it’s 6.15. Maybe you eat dinner at 6.30, quarter to seven. And now you’ve got three to four hours of homework. Let’s just say three hours. Okay? That takes you to ten o’clock. What about talking to your friends? What about some moderate socializing? What about just talking to the family? Well, now you’re up to about 11 or 12. If you cut that off at 11 and you didn’t start school till 9, your wake up time is seven.

Your departure time is maybe 8.15, 8.30. Do you get the idea how this could… Then you’ve got normal sleep. Now, really, 14 and 15 year old males need about nine hours of sleep because of the growth factor. We are absolutely destroying our kids’ health with the time that we start schools. A lot of schools today are starting at 7.30. That’s common. 7.30. That means probably a six o’clock wake up time. Are kids in bed by 10 or 9.30? No. No. Now, here’s the challenge. The NEA, I’ve never seen them on the side of kids. And you’re talking to a former high school teacher.

I’ve never seen them on the side of kids. They’re on the side of politics. Let me give you this. They go, well, this will create hardships for the parents. Really? Do you know the younger kids should be starting school earlier? They’re more equipped for it. When you get into puberty is when things change. So grades K through six, they could start earlier. But bus schedules really set the schedule too. And that’s the bottom line here. That is really the bottom line. K through 12. You don’t have to have the same start times. And elementary school should not be going later than the older kids.

And it makes more sense for supervision of kids too. Start times are needed. Are needed to go earlier. If we care about our kids’ health, we’ll find a way to work through the challenges. The NEA not withstanding. It’s funny how they throw criticism out, but they don’t propose anything different. It’s just the status quo. We don’t care if our kids are sleep deprived. We don’t care about all the effects it’s going to have on academics, behavioral and health issues. Even social interaction is negatively affected. It’s time. I’m glad to see California finally doing something right Florida jumping on board.

How about the rest of you 48? Do you care enough about your kids to adjust? You need to. And I’ll say one more thing before we go. There’s a trend right now for four day school weeks. Okay, well that means you’re going to be in school about an hour and a half to two hours longer. You’re creating sleep deprivation. You are. Schools that do four day weeks. They start early and end late on those four days so you can get that extra day off. You’re causing sleep deprivation in the children. It’s a problem. We need to fix it.
