Google Trying To Register Injected Mosquitoes In HawaiiEPA Allowing Comments!

Aloha everyone. Michelle Melendez with Blossom Inner Wellness and standtogetherhabai.com I’m joined again with Tina Lia of Hawaii Unites. And she has been heading the fight against these crazy ass Wolbachium injected mosquitoes that are being released on Maui. Millions, millions a week, you guys. I mean, this is, it is insane. And we do have some frustrating news because it was going, she was trying to get it to the Supreme Court. And Tina, I’m going to let you share what has happened with these Maui or Hawaii Supreme Court. Right, it’s the Hawaii Supreme Court. Yeah. So what happened with that? Because you, let’s start, let’s just go, let’s just kind of do a little chronological history of this journey.

So we have been, we were testifying against it for a long time, then it went through and then you started a court case. And can you, can you just share the chronological history of this case? Yeah, we took our case to the environmental court, that’s the state courts here, circuit courts. And the case was seeking a ruling that the agencies involved be required to complete an environmental impact statement. So do the comprehensive step studies about the risks of this project and, you know, the serious implications to the health of our environment and people and wildlife and the birds that they’re supposed to be trying to protect.

The case we had started with an initial hearing date for our preliminary injunction part of the case. And so we did get to go to court for one day and Testify, myself and Dr. Lauren Pang, our tropical disease and vector expert, expert witness in our case. And shortly after that, we were, we were scheduled for that to continue. The fires happened the next month actually on Maui. Everything was postponed. During the time leading up to that hearing, the state had put in for what is called a summary judgment. And unfortunately the judge in that circuit court granted them their summary judgment and that ended everything.

So we took that to the state appeals court and again they ruled in favor of the state in, in their own court. Surprise. Anyway, but they did rule in our favor and part of that aspect of the case, which had to do with the fact that they hadn’t properly documented our comments because as you say, you know, hundreds of us have been commenting, testifying, you know, overwhelmingly opposing this project and they just keep plowing forward. And so the appeals court did acknowledge and rule that they needed to amend their environmental assessment to properly document our comments.

And you know, they would present the state and their partners and, you know, probably the courts as well would present that. That is just of formality, but that is actually hugely important because if you don’t know who made specific comments, you don’t even have the full comments, which in our case included. And in, in the case of some of the other commenters that I know included peer reviewed studies with their comments. You know, there are scientists commenting and if you don’t know that that’s who a comment is coming from, you might not give it the same attention.

And so essentially the Board of Land and Natural Resources approved an incomplete document. They just pushed it right through. And so, you know, a part of our Supreme Court case that we took to the state supreme Court after the appeals court ruled in favor of allowing the agencies to move forward, did focus on the issue with the comments and how important that really is, you know, and numerous other issues with the fact that this project has not been sufficiently studied. And unfortunately the supreme state Supreme Court, with no explanation at all early this month let us know that they would not be taking our case and that ends this case in the state courts.

So, so they didn’t give you any justification? Like, don’t they normally give you some, some type of information of why they’re not taking it or do that? Is that just not part of their procedure? I don’t know that they have to do that. I had actually seen where you might not even get a notification. And if it’s just, you know, past the, the time frame when they are supposed to make a decision and you haven’t heard a decision that they have not taken your case. So I don’t know that they have any requirement to justify it.

But in this case, you know, this is really important. This has been a high profile case. And yeah, it did seem like there should have been some justification, particularly when you look at the specifics of our Supreme Court case, which, you know, is, is around our environmental court case, but also addresses the flaws and the decisions that have been made leading up to that case, which again include those comments and to me that seemed like something they would not be able to push aside. I think it is going to come back to bite these agencies. So we’ll see.

I, I know this, this court decision, all, all of these court decisions revolving around our case are going to come back to bite these agencies that call themselves conservation agencies, and they will regret supporting this project and they will most certainly regret any celebration they may be having about these court decisions because this is horrifying for our environmental laws and for what this could be used for to, you know, move forward with more experimentation on the islands, which is what these mosquitoes are, it’s an experiment. That’s absolutely 100% correct. Somebody even sent me this thing about mosquitoes.

I mean for anybody, what blows my mind is mosquitoes, they are known to cause, to transfer diseases. They like prior to this they’re already known to transfer diseases and now they’re injecting it with a bacterium. It blows my mind that they’re thinking, oh this nothing’s going to happen to the environment. Just mind boggling. But people now can still testify with the epa. Can you explain what’s going on with that? Yeah. So we had found out that Google, the actual company Google llc, had put in a request with the EPA to register their bacteria infected mosquitoes for release specifically in Hawaii.

So I want you to pause a second so everybody needs to hear what she just said. Google wants to license which means it’s a product they’re injected while bachium bacteria mosquitoes. So they, Google owns the patent for these mosquitoes or what? What? I’m just like this is so insane. This is like, this is like a really bad horror movie. It’s, it’s. If somebody were to tell me that this is a thing in, in real life, it’s just unbelievable. But go ahead and share, just share a little bit more about what that means when Google goes to license the mosquitoes, the injected mosquitoes just share a little bit more about what, what exactly does that mean? Yeah, it really is like a horror movie.

So the mosquitoes that they’re currently releasing are being manufactured by Verily Life Sciences, which is a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet. So they are sister companies for some reason. And, and those mosquitoes being released now are under what’s called an EPA Section 18 emergency exemption. So they’re able to use this product that hasn’t been registered with the EPA under the guise of this emergency that they are attempting to do a conservation project to address the issue with threat threatened and endangered honeycreepers that are being affected by avian malaria. And so that is the whole narrative behind this emergency exemption.

But in the meantime it looks like Verily originally applied for this Section 8, sorry, Section 3 registration with the EPA, which is where they’re trying to now officially register it as a registered product with the epa, which is it can be done to make it a product that can be used throughout the United States or it can target a specific state, which is what they’re doing here where it is to be used in Hawaii, you know, for this conservation project. But it’s a registered product. If this goes through as opposed to just this emergency special situation.

And during some part of that registration process, Google took over and is now the applicant. And there was no explanation for that. It could have to do with a number of things, possibly, you know, things happening in Verily and you know, wanting to make sure that this product is kept within the Google Alphabet structure. But we don’t know for sure why that happened, but it definitely is concerning because we have been mentioning all along that this Verily is subsidiary of, of Google’s parent company and that’s already concerning. But now it’s actually Google themselves. They do have, you know, Alphabet, Google, Verily, these are having scientific focus.

You know, there’s a lot more to the company of Alphabet and, and even Google and what they everything encompasses. So even with these section three, this registration, it specifies in the documents that the agencies here are required to use Google’s aerial release system. So there’s patents involved there, not just with the living organisms of the, the bacteria and the mosquitoes, but with the actual release system which I have been looking to find patents to see, you know, what that might encompass. And it certainly looks similar to some other aerial release systems that are for nefarious purposes.

But that, you know, is just of interest. We should certainly be paying attention to those kind of things because again, as we’ve been saying all along, no biosecurity protocols. If something goes wrong, if a bad actor gets in here somewhere in the lab, in the field, they don’t have any plans for what they would do to prevent a catastrophe or an intentional bioweapons situation. So might sound a little out there, but if you knew how inept these agencies are and how unconcerned they are with what a huge vulnerability this opens up to these islands. It’s, it’s really unbelievable.

You know, I just don’t have any words right now. This is so, this is just so unbelievable. We have an injected Wolbachian mosquito that’s being released millions a week. We have Google now that’s patenting the product. So it’s not a natural product. It’s being released. We have no biosecurity testing to make sure that like what is actually in the well injected well Baki mosquitoes is not, is not something that was, that has been infiltrated, that somebody else added something else into these mosquitoes. Again, we have talked about the fact that they will be releasing female mosquitoes which do bite, which do breed thousands, I mean thousands of eggs per lifetime.

So it’s like even Dr. Peng says that just A short amount or small amount of these mosquitoes entered into the environment can absolutely change the environment. So people, again, they can testify, make a. On the epa. So explain what that is, what’s going on. Yeah, so there is a public comment period for these registration requests through the epa. So this Google registration request, and we had put out notice about that earlier this month. And actually we. There were quite a few comments that came in. At one point it looked like it was over 300. I’m not sure what’s happening with the EPA site, but it is over 200.

And they’ve posted it looks like most of those and they are overwhelmingly opposed to this registration. That comment period deadline had ended. And so our organization, Hawaii Unites, contacted the EPA and requested that they reopen that comment period, that this is urgent and that that was not a sufficient time frame. So we did request that they extend that and they actually had agreed to do that. So we have an additional week to submit comments and the deadline is now on the 25th of September, so next Thursday. And so I’m hoping that anyone that didn’t have a chance to submit a comment, please do that.

We have on our homepage of our website, Hawaii Unites.org a link to comment and just a very basic sample comment that you can add your own information on. You know, what, what you want to speak on about this. And we do have a more detailed comment in our newsletter if you want some more details about some of the very serious concerns about these mosquitoes. So, yeah, we’re hoping that we can get a lot more commentary, specifically, you know, stating the concerns of the community, that we don’t want this, as well as the details. You know, there are a lot of comments that are based on solid scientific concerns.

And, you know, hopefully the EPA is actually looking at this and will do the right thing, but we need to. So can this be stopped through the epa? Can this be stopped or what. What, what exactly is this for? The registration, if it was denied, that would stop this next phase of what they’re intending to do here. And I do believe it could have a huge impact on what they’re doing here because that section 18 emergency registration is going to expire and I don’t believe that they can extend it, particularly since this Section 3 registration request was put into place.

So when does it expire? April of next year, I believe. Oh, okay. So they have a whole year. Yeah, I just, I’m just, I just. All these emergency proclamations to bring in what, what it is that they want, like The Hawaii governor signing nine emergency proclamations over 90 times. He keeps signing it because the law literally supposed to give him 90 days and. Or 60 days. And he signs it. Signs it. He signed nine emergency proclamations over 90 times on administrative issues to do what he wants to do. And now there’s. Now there’s, oh, it’s emergency.

Oh, it’s emergency, you know, and they don’t even have proof that this is going to work. And they’re not even checking that this is going to save the birds in their documentation. So the whole purpose of this mosquitoes was to save the birds, but in their own documentation, they’re not even testing to see if it’s working to save the birds. And they say, oh, that’s not part of the. Of the reason for the. Of the reason for the experiment or what. What did they say about that? Because it’s just like they. I’m trying to remember what is the exact term they used.

But it. It is not part of what they’re required to do in their own documents that were approved for this project. It’s outside the scope of the project, essentially, is what. The document that. So monitoring the effects of these mosquitoes on the forest birds, the very birds that they are supposed to be focused on, is outside the scope of the project. It’s not at all a requirement of how this entire narrative that was close to 300 pages heavily focused on the birds, not very focused on the science, and they’re not even required to monitor it. Their own federal documents admit that this is a novel tool for conservation purposes.

Any kind of these Wolbachia mosquitoes, they don’t admit. But I will say they’ve never used this species for any purpose in a standalone field release of any kind, let alone 64,666 acres and similar, a little bit smaller on Kauai, but also a huge acreage that they’re experimenting on. And yeah, I want to make it very clear. These agencies have been releasing these mosquitoes since 2023 on Maui. They have produced zero data that publicly, no data has been produced. They keep saying, we need more time, we need more time. It’s not even working. The reality is, if they had any data to show that this was working, you know darn well that they would have it all over the newspapers, all over here.

It’s not even working. It’s not safe, it’s not tested, it’s not working. Mm. Yep. I absolutely 100% agree with you. Because if they had any. Anything that showed that would support Their narrative, this is saving the birds. They would definitely be exploiting that for sure. Absolutely. So, Tina, I just want to say thank you so much for the work you’re doing. I know that was a huge disappointment with the Supreme Court. I was disappointed in the system, but also the system’s rigged to work against us. That’s just the nature of the beast of it all. And we just keep going.

Now there is. I sent you the notice of liability, which I am sending the governor, actually, three notices of liability against the smart meters, the thingy with the thingy, and then the 5G. And did you take a. Have you had a chance to look at that? Because I’m curious if a notice of liability could work for the personal people who are responsible for this, the main people who are putting this through. And maybe I don’t know who that is. The dlnr. I don’t know. I don’t know who it is. But if you do a notice of liability, I’m wondering, because somebody’s got to be liable for.

For this experiment. I mean, it’s unbelievable. So what. What are your thoughts on that? Did you take a look at that? Yeah, I have been looking at that. I need to learn more about it. And there are multiple people who are responsible. I mean, I think if we wanted to narrow it down to some of the decision makers, we definitely do have names there. You know, we’re looking at what we can do moving forward. I mean, I will say, yes, this. The situation with the courts, it’s a huge disappointment, not entirely unexpected in that we took the state to court in their own system, their own courts.

But I did, you know, want to believe that there was some validity to our courts. I do believe they have failed these islands. And it appears that the system is broken. That doesn’t mean people shouldn’t continue pursuing court action, because I guess you never know. It appears to me that some of it is theater at this point, but, you know, we have to keep trying. And part of it is documenting things. This court case, you know, for me, there’s still the win in that they acknowledged that they didn’t follow their own administrative. The courts acknowledged that the state didn’t follow their own administrative rules and they did not properly document.

And that, you know, that. That basically acknowledges that a flawed and incomplete document was approved. And like I said, more information will come out as time moves forward on just how serious that is. And also, you know, we were able to raise awareness. This court case is still very strong. Whether or not it has ended in the Courts here, all of it is still very strong. We can reference it and it’s the truth. And the truth has been documented. And we’re going to continue on this journey doing that. You know, getting as much information as we can about what’s going on with these releases.

Any opportunity that we have to comment, testify and oppose this, we will do that. You know, there’s always more that we can do. So, yeah, we’re looking at all different angles. So any suggestions are always welcome. And we will continue leaving options open and seeing what we can do moving forward. Great. To keep these islands safe from tyranny can keep these islands safe from diseases that would come in.

To keep these islands safe from anything that would harm the people and the land. We call that forth right now.
