He had about a 45 minute window when I first called him. I said, look, my meeting just got over and I would really like to come and see you at your office. And he said, yes, do it. But he said, if you’re not here by one o’clock, then it’s going to be too late. And that was 20 minutes before one. So I hustled over there in an Uber and he had his assistant come and walk me through a specialized area of security. So I didn’t have to stand in line like everybody else was. And we met for 15 minutes in his little conference room with his assistant, Todd, and his secretary, I think.
And I can’t remember which one she was now. So I don’t remember her name. I think it was Lisa, but I’ll find I’ll verify that. But if you don’t find that, that’s fine because it just I just wanted to verify that everybody on the posse knows that we discuss the problems. And yeah, there he is. And you can see office of the United States borders are and where we were in the meeting is just straightforward about 20 feet. And that door goes into his office area. But we were in the conference room just now 20 feet forward from where we’re standing there with that beautiful picture.
And I will tell you this. He looked very tired and rightfully so. The man has been working 24 seven. And he’s been attacked relentlessly. His people are being attacked and he’s trying to stop that and change that. I invited him to come speak. He said he would run it past Trump. And he said, for sure, I’ll send one of my assistants, especially the one sitting there. He’s the liaison with local state authorities on deportation. So great. We might get taught. So, folks, I just want you to know by showing this picture that we’re moving, that we’re working and that we’re trying.
And something that I want all of you to know that I discussed with him in that meeting. We have one sheriff, Sheriff Marks in Iowa, who was sued by his state for not helping enough, not helping deportation and Tom Homan enough. His problem on that was that they weren’t given him warrants to hold people. They were just given detention orders. He said, I will comply with the Fourth Amendment. I’m a constitutional sheriff. I’ve had Sheriff Max Traney. Well, Sheriff Marks and I have talked and I’m not sure he’s correct, but I am sure of one thing that he is sincere about this.
And I love that part. So anyway, he won and he still is demanding a warrant. And I told that to Tom Homan. He said, I disagree that the detention order should be enough. And I said, well, it’s not for him. And so I said this, the state of Washington is trying to fire sheriffs, indict sheriffs or suing sheriffs who are helping, who have volunteered to help because they know that’s doing their job. And they want to make their community safer and they want this criminal element out. And so now they’re attacking them and trying to destroy the Office of Sheriff.
Folks, we can’t allow that to happen. And that’s why we’re doing this event there. And Sheriff Marks, we’re going to pay for his way to get there. We’re going to pay for Sheriff, former Sheriff Brad Rogers to get there. We’re going to pay for a couple of sheriffs out of Texas, maybe more, a couple out of Florida and Vermont and other places all across the country. And we’re not going to ask them to spend their departmental budget to get there. So this is what we’ve done every conference. It’s really paid off and we’ve done it. The first conference we had January 30th, 2012, we paid for 95 sheriffs to be there.
We paid for their food, we paid for their hotel, and we paid for their airfare. That raised 125,000. Folks, all we need to do now is raise another 40 from what we already have. So whatever you can donate, we absolutely need it. And we’re not going to postpone this anymore. We’re not going to cancel it. We might need to postpone it until the first week in December, but that’s going to be the extent of that just because of these other scheduling problems that I mentioned before. [tr:trw].
